UCF Service Terrible
I am trying to take FORTRAN at UCF over the summer. I feel sorry for UCF students now. Their main campus phone number, which is listed on almost every page on their website, is a number to a recording. UF's main phone number is answered by a real person, which is much better than some recording telling you website addresses and hours of operation. Ok, so I go through the recording and find the registrar's office. The recording tells me that the registrar's hours of operation for todat are 9-5, so then I press the button to speak with someone, however once I press it, I get the message that the registrar's office is closed! I go to UCF's college of Engineering page to try to find their phone number, but it isn't listed! Why hide your freakin' phone number? I then try to go to the catalog at UCF for Engineering, hoping to find the course that all engineering students at UCF would take, if they wanted to take FORTRAN. However, their catalog is crap! It does not have a listing of courses. I found another listing of courses after searching for a long time, but it does not list the ones over the summer of '04 that will be offerered, and I still do not know what the course number for FORTRAN for Engineers at UCF is. I have no idea how their students put up with this. Either that, or I have become spoiled at UF by getting the information I desire easiy. I mean, come on, all I am asking is what FORTRAN UCF engineers take, aparently no one at UCF knows, not even in their Engineering and Computer Science dept. I called Mechanical Engineering at UCF, since that is the major that is closest to mine, but then the lady I spoke to said UCF mech eng students take C for their programming req., they rarely take FORTRAN unless they go out of their way to do so. UCF is killing their student's future. Sure, C is much more popular in the programmign world, but for Engineering, FORTRAN is still the most useful. At my interview with Entergy, they asked me what languages I knew, I told them C. They were like "ok, what else?" Then I was like, well, I know a little html and BASIC. They were still like "ok, what else?" I was like, "ummmm". Then he said, "Do you know FORTRAN" I was like "no" He was like "oh......" Then "Well, we can teach it to you when you work here". If this wasn't a co-op or internship I was applying for, I am sure I would of not of gotten it w/o knowing FORTRAN.
Summary of Post: Hard to find information at UCF, UCF is hurting their students' future.
