Review of March Posts
This month was my worst month for blogging. On the calender, you see that there is a big gap, the 6th-13th I had Spring Break so my internet access was intermitant, and when I had access it was 56k, so I didn't want to blog. Also, UF's eithernet is exteamly slow for my area, which means my online time is usually only aim and school stuff, since it is really annoying having it so slow. they are updating it or something. Also I got the game Knights of the Old Republic from my roommate, so when I have free time and I want to go on my pc, I do not update my blog, I play. heh heh. Anyways, here are the highlights, all be it very few, of March 2004
March 30: UCF Rant
March 17: Review of a really good speech by Cheney
March 15: Kerry's Rudeness
March 14: My Spring Break

UCF Service Terrible
I am trying to take FORTRAN at UCF over the summer. I feel sorry for UCF students now. Their main campus phone number, which is listed on almost every page on their website, is a number to a recording. UF's main phone number is answered by a real person, which is much better than some recording telling you website addresses and hours of operation. Ok, so I go through the recording and find the registrar's office. The recording tells me that the registrar's hours of operation for todat are 9-5, so then I press the button to speak with someone, however once I press it, I get the message that the registrar's office is closed! I go to UCF's college of Engineering page to try to find their phone number, but it isn't listed! Why hide your freakin' phone number? I then try to go to the catalog at UCF for Engineering, hoping to find the course that all engineering students at UCF would take, if they wanted to take FORTRAN. However, their catalog is crap! It does not have a listing of courses. I found another listing of courses after searching for a long time, but it does not list the ones over the summer of '04 that will be offerered, and I still do not know what the course number for FORTRAN for Engineers at UCF is. I have no idea how their students put up with this. Either that, or I have become spoiled at UF by getting the information I desire easiy. I mean, come on, all I am asking is what FORTRAN UCF engineers take, aparently no one at UCF knows, not even in their Engineering and Computer Science dept. I called Mechanical Engineering at UCF, since that is the major that is closest to mine, but then the lady I spoke to said UCF mech eng students take C for their programming req., they rarely take FORTRAN unless they go out of their way to do so. UCF is killing their student's future. Sure, C is much more popular in the programmign world, but for Engineering, FORTRAN is still the most useful. At my interview with Entergy, they asked me what languages I knew, I told them C. They were like "ok, what else?" Then I was like, well, I know a little html and BASIC. They were still like "ok, what else?" I was like, "ummmm". Then he said, "Do you know FORTRAN" I was like "no" He was like "oh......" Then "Well, we can teach it to you when you work here". If this wasn't a co-op or internship I was applying for, I am sure I would of not of gotten it w/o knowing FORTRAN.
Summary of Post: Hard to find information at UCF, UCF is hurting their students' future.

Joe's Life
Had Family Guy Night two nights ago with the KGB, I coordinated it. It went well. It's great having UF pay for your pizza. Comedy Club or something was last night, I missed part of it due to doing hw in the nuke building. And tonight is circuits lab, I have to do the pre-lab for it within two hours..... Hold that thought..... Crap. Bye!

Got KOTOR Working
Yep, Knights of the Old Republic works on my pc now. Much thanks is due to Anthony, who figured that even tho Dell doesn't support Catalist, they make the proper update for KOTOR polygons in their last version of the Mobility Radeon driver.
KOTOR is great. The graphics are amazing. Much better than any other game I have seen. It has the classic Star Wars feel for greatly contrasted enviroments, eg: going from Taris, a city-planet covered with skyscrapers, to the plains of rural Dantooine. It is a very addictive RPG. It even has like, flocks of birds flying accross the sky. The plot is good, not some unbeleivable plot like the games Blizzard makes. The are countless decisions u make throughout the game too. You even get to solve a murder mystery by questioning suspects and such.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
I just got Star Wars: KOTOR installed. This game is very advanced. My computer that I got in July is too old for it :P it meets all the specs except for video card driver. My videocard is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (32meg). However, SW:KOTOR demands I have a ATI Catalist driver installed. After downloading it, I get an error message during the installation; that setup could not locate the components that were needed in order to install on my current hardware or software configuration. Damnit! Who are they trying to market this game to when a computer that is less than a year old can't play it. Actually, my roommate can play it on his PC, and another friend of mine, who has a 750Mhz processor on a pc that is 4 years old can play it. Anyone know what to do?
Update: Found Out ATI does not support ATI Mobility Drivers due to it being for notebook pcs, aka laptops. They say get it from Dell. But Dell does not have the Catalist Drivers, only the one I already have. This sucks.

Remarks by Vice President Cheney at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California
Cheney gave an awesome speech this morning. His message was clear and precise. It was pretty much like a State of the Union, he addressed many topics: Terrorism, it's future, and our involvement in Iraq. He also slammed Kerry. I mean, like, it's impossible for Kerry to give an legitamite reply, Cheney was just that good. Kerry's reply will probably go like this "how dare he insult me! I am a US Senator". Cheney discusses how Kerry's idea of treating terrorist attacks as legal matters and playin the defensive will not work (that is what we did in the 90's, it did not work with Clinton, why would it work for Kerry?). He also goes into Kerry blaming Bush for not giving the troops body armor, but Bush supported the bill, Kerry voted against it, but it passed and Bush signed it. He goes into his former leader claims. And goes into so many other matters. I will add them here over the weekend when I have more time.
You can find the speech here.
Some Quotes from it that I liked:
"America requires a new strategy - not merely to prosecute a series of crimes, but to fight and win a global campaign against the terror network. Our strategy has several key elements. We have strengthened our defenses here at home, organizing the government to protect the homeland. But a good defense is not enough. The terrorist enemy holds no territory, defends no population, is unconstrained by rules of warfare, and respects no law of morality. Such an enemy cannot be deterred, contained, appeased, or negotiated with. It can only be destroyed - and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the business at hand. (Applause.)"
"Senator Kerry speaks often about the need for international cooperation, and has vowed to usher in a "golden age of American diplomacy." He is fond of mentioning that some countries did not support America's actions in Iraq. Yet of the many nations that have joined our coalition - allies and friends of the United States - Senator Kerry speaks with open contempt. Great Britain, Australia, Italy, Spain, Poland, and more than 20 other nations have contributed and sacrificed for the freedom of the Iraqi people. Senator Kerry calls these countries, quote, "window dressing." They are, in his words, "a coalition of the coerced and the bribed."
Many questions come to mind, but the first is this: How would Senator Kerry describe Great Britain - coerced, or bribed? Or Italy - which recently lost 19 citizens, killed by terrorists in Najaf - was Italy's contribution just window dressing? If such dismissive terms are the vernacular of the golden age of diplomacy Senator Kerry promises, we are left to wonder which nations would care to join any future coalition. He speaks as if only those who openly oppose America's objectives have a chance of earning his respect. Senator Kerry's characterization of our good allies is ungrateful to nations that have withstood danger, hardship, and insult for standing with America in the cause of freedom."
On a bill providing funding for body armor and other vital equipment; hazard pay; health benefits; ammunition; fuel, and spare parts for our military: "Senator Kerry said, quote, 'I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.' (Laughter.) It's a true fact. (Laughter.)" heh heh heh heh, listen to this quick little sound byte.
"In his years in Washington, Senator Kerry has been one vote of a hundred in the United States Senate - and fortunately on matters of national security, he was very often in the minority. But the presidency is an entirely different proposition. The President always casts the deciding vote. And the Senator from Massachusetts has given us ample doubts about his judgment and the attitude he brings to bear on vital issues of national security."
Cheney for President!

International Eat an Animal for PETA Day
Apparently there is an International Eat an Animal for PETA Day, March 15th. w00t! to whoever started that. PETA gets so annoying. Like, handing out flyers to children whos mothers wear fur when their families go to plays saying that their mommies kill animals with graphic pictures. PETA also said t "McDonald's tells kids that hamburgers grow in hamburger patches. It's a lie." NOOO!!!!!!!!!!! PETA ruined my childhood! Found out about this at Branille's site.

Kerry is Unbelievably Rude
This post contains two comments about the rudeness of Kerry
1. His reply when a voter asked him a question about whom the world leaders were that said they supported him.
2. His conduct during the Vietnam War in relation to his treatment of his fellow soldiers.
Kerry Goes Dean on a voter
Cedric Brown, a US citizen and a participant in a town hall meeting, asked Senator Kerry, "Who are these foreign leaders that you've met with?" The exchange went on for seven minutes. Kerry refused to say who said they supported him. He said it was a private matter and that it was none of Brown's business. He later asked the voter who he voted for, saying "Are you a registered Republican? Are you a Republican? You answer the question. That's not an answer. Did you vote for George Bush? Did you vote for George Bush? Thank you." It's as if he told Brown to "shut up". It was greeted with applause by many others in the town hall meeting. This just makes me sick. Bush has never told anyone, let alone a common citizen asking a question, to "shut up". It's much more of a private matter who a citizen voted for than announcing what world leaders support you. No foreign leader has acknowleged this, unleass of course it depends on your definition of "leader". Maybe a French Fire Cheif supports him; a fire cheif is a "leader".
Kerry's Rudeness Extended to his fellow soldiers in Vietnam
Kerry was on patrol on a river in Vietnam with fellow US soldiers. A man from the shore opens fire on their boat with an AK-47. A soldier with Kerry returns fire, killing the man. Kerry then yells at his fellow soldier, saying that he [Kerry] should make him [the man who returned fire] face a court marshal for that. Damnit! Someone just saved your life Kerry, if he followed your lead and did not return fire, you might be dead.

Spring Break 2004!
I have not updated my blog in a while, so this update will be a bit larger than normal. Spring Break was great! I went to MegaCon, hung out with friends that I went to high school with, helped raise money for retarded children, cleared out part of the greenbelt behind my house, and relaxed. There that was the summary, now for the details.
MegaCon
MegaCon was awesome. After going through the huge line for tickets, I looked for the two people I was supposed to meet there, but I could not find them. Instead I saw David and his friend, Neumann, there. So, I waited in line again. Then we went around looking at all the stuff. I got two comics, one when Batman and Superman team up, and the other was a X-Men comic. I also got a Family Guy t-shirt and a CD from the "movie" Evangelion: Death. Walking around, we saw Walter Keoning there, the guy who played Checkov. He was there last year too. Good ol' Checkov. If only we could hear him scream for Kirk one... last... time... We also saw photos of Picard and Janeway in sexy poses. Later I met up with Alex and Sam, who I was planning on meeting earlier, they got there late... *sigh* I need a cell phone. Anyway, I tried to show Alex the Picard photos. I think she has a thing for bald men :P but she refused to go. We walked around some more, had lunch, and saw the anime costume contest. Lots of characters I did not know of were there. Lots of Trigun and Sailor Moon people there. The best tho was Mario. He was perfect for the character, same looks, costume looks the same, had a plunger, got everyone to chant his name, and I think he had the Super Mario Bros 1 music playing in the background. Sam, Alex, and I couldn't see to well from being really far back, so we just talked most of the time. After that, MegaCon was over for the day. I then went home and was shortly afterward called by Phil.
Hanging Out with Friends
Phil called asking if I wanted to hang out at Dave's place. I came over, besides, Phil and Dave, Cory, Josh, and probably some others I do not remember were there. We watched pirated Family Guy eps off my laptop and some other stupid stuff for several hours. A few days later we got together again to go bowling. This time Kenny was there. I have not seen him since his graduation party after we graduated from high school. His parents moved to Sarasota and he goes to Appalachian State Univ. After two bad games of bowling (at least for me, such a loser) we went over to PJ's house. He had several DVDs of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. We watched that while looking at stupid stuff on his computer. Played some Halo at Phil's place too.
Misc.
The rest of Spring Break was taking care of stuff and relaxing. I helped raise money for retarded, or mentally slow, kids at Morning Star. I think combined we raised a total of like $1100. I also helped my dad with the greenbelt behind my house (A greenbelt is a natural area surrounding a lake) The area has become overrun with vines, big thick ones. So, on the edge of the water, and occasionally stepping in, we tried to clear that area up. My dad has been working on it for some time. I also went fishing. After nearly a full day of vine pulling, we all went to a really good Chinese buffet. It was great. I miss really good Chinese food at UF. Had to do thermo hw over the break too. It was assigned the day we left. Damn Thermo!

Status: Sane
In my last post I said that I would not play GTA: Vice City until next Sunday. Well, I played it. But after I got all my hw taken care of, got a good amount of studying done, and called Entergy about rescheduling my co-op. So actually, everything is going well, according to schedule. I was able to stay on top of everything. As for Vice City, I just purchased the Club Malibu, the most expensive property in the game. Phil told me that the missions in there are some of the hardest in the game; they are. Busting into police HQ in order to free a prisoner was somewhat easy, getting him out wasn't that bad either. However, with the bloodshed that was required to get him out, my criminal rating went to max. Which meant that not only did I have cops chasing me, but the cops in the fast cars, the FBI, and the US military. Luckily, I took my helicopter to rescue him, so once we got out, there was skirmish, then a run for it, then we were airborne. However, the mission requires you to lose the cops, which requires your vehicle to be repainted, which means I would either have to maneuver a helicopter into a garage while being shot at, or land and drive a car in. However, I could not land. The ground was covered with cops and soldiers, and there were tanks. I was like, htf am I supposed to do this? So after flying around for a while, I landed near a car near the garage. In 10 seconds I was busted. Yeah, I know what u are thinking, nerd, but Vice City is so addictive!

Week of Hell
It is the week b4 Spring Break, so I am going to have a really busy week: 3 HW's due, 2 exams, and 2 quizzes. Reactor Systems exam is going to be pure hell. It will be mainly derivation, not problems, it will not be like the homework, no notes or books like Rad Int or Themro, and it's at 9:30 am Thursday. The HW is due sporatically during the week. And after my Friday exam, I have to quickly go back to Orlando so I can make MegaCon the next day.
Just finsihed watching Braveheart on USA while doing hw, unsucsessfully I might add. Damn good movie. For some reason when Wallace had the final meeting with Robert the Bruce, I hope that the English are not there to take him, though I know the movie will not change. I still have yet to see The Passion of the Christ, maybe sometime next week.
I have become addicted to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, perfect timing too, right b4 midterms. I am having fun buying out the buisnesses in the city. It's like monopoly, but with automatic weapons. I am so screwed. But I shall fix that. I solemnly swear in my blog that I shall not play Vice City until next Sunday. I SWEAR IT!
Yesterday was fun. I watched the Oscars with KGB people and a few others. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won every Oscar it was nominated for. After three years, they finally got Best Picture. I am glad. However, I was disappointed with their choice for best supporting actor. I think it should of gone to Wantanambe from The Last Samurai.
