"Bad side effects of nuclear waste"? I'll list them: Death, sickness, mutation. However, none of thse are genetic, if one person is exposed and then reproduces, the child is free of any "bad things" the parent got. But radiation exposure in small amounts is healthy. Also, very few people have ever suffered due to radiation. You may think that people get most of their radiation from industry, aka: nuclear power plants, this is false. This chart demonstrates this.
Radon comes from the earth and is trapped in your house due to insulation. The nuclear power industry would fall under "other".
