Spyware
I can't sleep; too much coffee earlier. Might as well blog. I have found the value of firewalls. My pc recently has been a victim to spyware. I like spyware that is easy to remove. You get it, Ad-Aware removes it, done. But the spywrare I got told Windows to launch it each startup, so when Ad-Aware removed it, Windows displayed a pop-up window asking for file "bridge.dll", a spyware file. The person who designed this had to of been very evil, to make Windows ask for spywware. Anyways, in the process of trying to fix my problem I found many other spyware applications Ad-Aware missed, such as Viewpoint Media Player, which comes with AIM. The newest AIM contains some spyware, joy. www.joeuser.com has an article on this. So I got rid of that and a few other things. Here is something odd. C:\Program Files\stop-the-pop-up demo. I cannot find this folder on my pc, even when enabling hidden folders and system folders. it is not there. But, according to mscofig, it is there. Oh, btw, msconfig solved that problem I had with the missing bridge.dll file. I just deselected it for startup there and I no longer got the pop-up. But still having an unchecked box in msconfig was to much for me. So after I decided I could not sleep tonight, I did a system restore. yay! it got rid of bridge.dll for good, but it brought back all the previous spyware! So here it is, 5am, and I just got rid of all the spyware on my system, once again. sigh.....
For anyone who is getting a "Windows is missing C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll" message immidiatly after Windows starts:
The easiest way to get rid of that message is to go to Start --> Run
type: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
Deselect bridge.dll
Restart Computer
You may get a message after restart telling you what you just did if you have never done this b4 to your pc. This is normal. Just select don't remind me again, and everything will be fine FOREVER!
